About Me:

Matthew Palermo

Lover of video games, traveling, and food

Hello! My name is Matthew Palermo. I’m from Long Island, New York. I am a Junior Gameplay Designer specializing in puzzle and sandbox systems, with strong foundations in player-centric level design developed through multiple completed projects. I have led several teams in creating robust gameplay prototypes, consistently meeting milestones and integrating playtest feedback to improve core mechanics. I am passionate about receiving high-value feedback from all stakeholders to ensure high quality gameplay features and player experience. In addition, I have a Master of Science in Game Design & Development from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Game development has always been a huge desire of mine. I have enjoyed video games since I was a kid, but as I grew up I started to learn about how to create games, and then began to wonder about creating immersive experiences. Telling stories that provoke thought and immersion has always been a huge interest of mine. The Game Design and Development program at the Rochester Institute of Technology allowed me to learn a lot more about how games are made behind the scenes, but it also provides the perfect opportunity for me to craft the experiences I want to give out.

During my time obtaining my two degrees, I have been creating immersive experiences through level, narrative and environmental design. These three fields allow me to express my creativity through carefully crafted stories for the player to engage with. I’ve always wanted to make the players feel something special through my work. Being able to design levels, narratives and environments allow me to display that with a critically thought goal in mind. It is my goal to turn these ideas into a career!

In my spare time, I enjoy playing video games, playing the piano, and traveling. My favorite video games series are from Nintendo, specifically Mario, Pokémon, and Super Smash Bros.! I’ve been playing the piano for over 4 years. I have been to over 15 countries across North America, Europe, Africa and Asia!
